Richmond’s international rookie, Irishman John Heslin, says he is itching to experience consistent match play, after six months of solid training.
The 21-year-old from Westmeath relocated to Melbourne in July last year, and while the Tigers were in the middle of their season, Heslin confined to the training track.
“Six months is a long time not to play games, and I’m getting to the stage where I’m just itching to play games,” he said.
“Back home I used to play games once a week, sometimes twice, for the whole year, and only have a week or two off. So six months of just training has been tough that way. “
Heslin has worked closely with Richmond’s fitness staff and coaches, learning the game, developing his skills, and dealing with the rigours of pre season training.
“It’s my first time having a pre-season ever, because I never had one when I was in Ireland,” he said.

RICHMOND midfielder Shane Edwards has been known as 'Tich' for good reason. When he came over from North Adelaide he was so skinny he could fit down a drainpipe on the Punt Rd grandstand.
But now, after another summer of hard yakka in the gym and on the tooth, he's ready for a new nickname. Edwards has put on 7.5kg since last season, bringing his weight to 81.5kg.
Maybe he should be renamed 'Arnie' or 'Muscles', or just plain 'Eddo'.
"It's been easier to put on weight because I'm a bit older and my body's more mature," he said.
Edwards was drafted at No. 26 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He was just 66kg when the Tigers took him on.
Every pre-season since then, he's worked on putting on weight, but not too fast. The Tigers' fitness staff warned him that an explosion in kilograms would slow him down and put pressure on his groins.

Richmond key position prospect Ben Griffiths is as buoyant as ever that he can make an impact on the field for the Tigers.
The 20-year-old, who has been frustrated by injuries in his first two years at Tigerland, has managed more pre-season hours on the training track, and in the gym, than ever before.
“At the moment I’m probably feeling as strong as I have since I’ve been here, and strength wise I think I’m a lot bigger,” he said.
“I want to start pushing it a bit more, so I can get out there quicker.
“I want to get the continuity in my training, which I haven’t had over the last two years. Hopefully it’s a sign of good things to come.”
Griffiths has been forced to deal with the frustration of injury, from the moment he arrived at Punt Road at the end of 2009.
He played four games in his debut season, and added another five in 2011.

RICHMOND star Brett Deledio has put contract talks on hold, subjecting the Tigers to an excruciating wait.
Deledio, 24, is a prime target for Greater Western Sydney and also qualifies for free agency when his deal expires in October.
The dual best-and-fairest winner has said he wants to stay at Punt Rd, but is eager to play finals.
It means a miserable season for the Tigers, who haven't played off in September since 2001, could cost the club his signature.
Richmond opens its season against Carlton, Collingwood and Melbourne and could be forced to wait until mid-season to learn of Deledio's decision.
It is understood Deledio's management, led by Anthony McConville - who also handles Tigers vice-captain Trent Cotchin - is prepared to delay talks despite the speculation.
Finals are a sticking point in the Deledio deal. Deledio is shaping as the biggest fish in the free agency war, with Collingwood and Geelong set to play hard ball in the chase for marquee talent.
