Considering there's less than 6 weeks to our first NAB Cup games at Etihad, on friday 17th Feb, I thought it was time we had a designated NAB cup thread for any build-up or discussion.

The results of these games don't mean a lot to me, yet I always enjoy a win. They are enjoyable to see 2 main things:
    1. A chance to see some of the new draftees.
    2. Whom of the younger blokes has developed in skill or confidence (remember when Vickery showed something last year?).

I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait to see our new guys out there, but i'm especially looking forward to seeing Ellis, Derickx, Morris, and in particular, Arnot. I really like the look of him. I've said it before and i'll say it again, he might turn out to be an absolute steal. Though Morris looks amazing too.

Is it still a round robin format?

Yes TBR in the first round it is, but considering it is only the second season for it, i don't think it is a dead horse that needs flogging just yet.

With 18 teams and 4 weeks, they need to do something like that.

It's also a different format for the rest of the weeks because of that as well. It is like a mini season as opposed to a knock out. So we know all our opponents except for week 4. It also means all those known games will be televised on Fox, which will be great for us all to see. Having the club bring us online coverage last year was great, but Fox will give us a more quality feed. Hopefully the club will cover the 4th week as per last year (assuming we don't make the final)

We face Hawthorn and North in round one.
Freo in WA in round 2.
    Geelong in Rnd 3

I am really looking forward to seeing Ellis and Derrickx.

Agreed and I've worked out how to get it inside my signature now to stop any confusion! :)

Looks like a great format, can't wait to see Dustin get around in first class condition.

The draw looks a bit fairer this year too. Last year against Carlton and Collingwood was just laughable.

As a foxtel subscriber, being able to see all 4 matches live is terrific. I can't wait.

With all the hype and the new training partners in the old U.S.A it will be very interesting to see how we do jump start the NAB cup, I mean what I have seen they are for the most part running PB's or very close to it, they have been using football at training from day one focusing on short sharp skills sessions. With all things being equal we should jump out of the blocks at full speed and give the nab cup a shake.

I will be watching big Griff for a break out year, has the size and the body now just needs to take that next step and turn it into constant performances over both a game and the season.

Hawthorn will be up and running and will be a hard match up
North we should have there measure
Fremantle you would think with a new coach and game plan start slowly and we have a good record over there
Geelong will start slow you would think with more focus being on the 2nd half of the year
    (all IMHO)

So we should be able to account for Fremantle and Geelong but the three way will all depend whether or not we can get a good run on against north but I think we are a good chance to make the final, what do others think?

I can't wait to see Arnot and Morris running off half back [:-thumbu]

Also i hope Derrickx plays well, he should be pretty cheap in supercoach again;)

I can't see us beating Geelong. I'm reminded of the NAB Cup game against the pies last year. Their structures and game plan were so together even though they were in practice match mode.

Big difference this year thoug Dmac.

Last year they had a better prep courtesy of not being in the GF, and they also were trying to impress a new coach.

I'm saying I don't think we can expect them to be at the same level they were at last year, nothing to do with whether or not we played them.

Write the Cats off at your peril.
They lost Ablett before the last season & didn't miss a beat.

And by the same token as stated above, the Magpies will be out to impress their new coach this season.

Yep, I see Collingwood as being the logical flag favourites, and by quite some margin.

I can feel a return to the former glory days of TBR coming.

Seem to have the site jumping in the last week!
