RICHMOND midfielder Shane Edwards has been known as 'Tich' for good reason. When he came over from North Adelaide he was so skinny he could fit down a drainpipe on the Punt Rd grandstand.

But now, after another summer of hard yakka in the gym and on the tooth, he's ready for a new nickname. Edwards has put on 7.5kg since last season, bringing his weight to 81.5kg.

Maybe he should be renamed 'Arnie' or 'Muscles', or just plain 'Eddo'.

"It's been easier to put on weight because I'm a bit older and my body's more mature," he said.

Edwards was drafted at No. 26 in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He was just 66kg when the Tigers took him on.

Every pre-season since then, he's worked on putting on weight, but not too fast. The Tigers' fitness staff warned him that an explosion in kilograms would slow him down and put pressure on his groins.

You omitted the "inclined" part of my statement, Broady. Makes all the difference. If I had facts and figures to back up my statement I would have used them - ergo, in the past I have perceived that Eddo can be a little wayward with his kicking. Whether this is because he is not getting the backup from the rest of the team, I don't know - as I also stated.

That's alright, because I know you're a fan of "Duncan the Suave".

How about 'Duncan with the tickets all overhimself'? :p

That's a lot of weight. It would be interesting how much of that is muscle. Also, he will need to work on keeping up his agility as the extra weight could slow him down a little. No doubt they will be working on that. Another 2-3kg, he'll be right on the weight target.

I don't think he makes more mistakes then anyone else but it can look worse when he does stuff up. When he miss fires he tends to kick a big worm burner rather then kicking it short, over the head or sideways of the target which tends to not look as bad but often ending in the same result.

I do like his creativity by hand particularly. Hopefully he doesn't lose too much agility or speed.

No I meant about it starting substandard early in the season and improving from there. I perceived that last year as well; I was wondering whether you remember it from previous years also. I can't think that far back.

I reckon you could say that about us as a team in the past few seasons.

Really pleased to see Edwards stepping up and working as hard as possible to cement a position. Hope to see him at the bottom of a few packs this season feeding out some terrific handball, which we know he is capable of doing.

Much better than trying to kick into 50 for us, which he is erratic at best.

Go the titch, show us the potential you have been teasing us with for so long!
